Sustainability
Helping Protect the Planet
Goodwill is known as the "original recycler." For more than 100 years, Goodwill has been built on the idea of recycling clothing and housewares — and our commitment to sustainability remains strong today.
How We Divert Millions of Pounds from Landfills:
• Retail Stores & Online: Donations are first sold in our stores and online platforms, offering quality items at affordable prices
• Outlet Stores: Unsold items get a second chance at deeply discounted prices
• Salvage for Good Program: Remaining materials are responsibly reused or repurposed, ensuring even hard-to-recycle items stay out of landfills
The Result: Every donation gets multiple opportunities for a second life, maximizing its impact while minimizing waste in our community.
Other Sustainable Programs
At Goodwill, we're committed to sustainability and finding new uses for donated materials. Through innovative programs like Cleveland Rocks and Bag of Rags, we transform items that might otherwise end up in landfills into useful products. Cleveland Rocks features tumbled recycled glass perfect for crafts and other creative uses, while Bag of Rags offers multipurpose recycled rags for everyday needs. Both are available at select Goodwill stores, giving our community eco-friendly options while supporting our mission.
