Five Things to Donate This Fall
While we may not be ready to put away the sunscreen quite yet, for some of us our favorite season is just around the corner. It’s is never long enough so, admittedly, I go overboard decorating for fall somehow hoping to stave off the next season.
I like to change up the look of my front porch and entryway every year. And because I don’t have a lot of storage space, I know when I bring in new items, I need to let go of others.
So off to Goodwill I go! The fall/Halloween aisle allows me to find great items to give my space a new look without breaking my budget. And, I know that when I donate the items I won’t be using anymore, I’m helping to fund Goodwill’s mission of helping others through their employment programs and family services.
Here are my top 5 suggestions to donate this fall:
1. Costumes
Hey, remember you dressed as a witch last Halloween and a flower child the year before? Chances are, you will never wear those costumes again. So, make some space in your closet, donate those costumes and find your new ones for you, the kids, even the dog!
2. Fall Décor
It’s time to refresh your fall décor. As you find new pumpkins, leaves, gourds, etc. remember, the décor you are replacing can be donated and breathe new life into someone’s else’s home.
3. Clothing
Soon you’ll be storing your shorts, dresses, and tank tops (sigh) and bringing out flannels, sweaters, and coats. Are the kids’ pants two inches too short? Isn’t it amazing how fast they grow? Is your wardrobe sparking joy? Sounds like it’s time for a trip to Goodwill. Bring the kids’ too small clothes and your “just perfect for someone else” pieces and donate them to Goodwill knowing they will be great for others. And, then get to shopping!
4. Toys
Kids outgrow their toys as fast as they outgrow their clothing. So, clean out that toy room, bring them to any of Goodwill’s donation centers, and find some great replacement toys inside!
5. Furniture
We’ve all spent a lot more time at home this year and with winter approaching, we’ll continue to be inside. Who’s ready for a change of scenery? Whether it’s a bedroom, family room, or office, I always find that a simple makeover with a fresh coat of paint and switch-out of a few pieces of furniture or pictures can completely transform a room. Donate those beds, dressers, end tables, desks, filing cabinets, wall art, chairs, etc. to Goodwill as you make room for your new furniture.
