Employee Skills Training and Job Placement

At Goodwill, it is our job to help individuals overcome barriers to getting and keeping good jobs. Our employment skills programming boils down to two key areas: Pre-employment Training and Job Placement Services. In Pre-employment Training, the job seeker works with Goodwill staff to complete a vocational evaluation to determine what type of job is the best fit, based on both skills and interest. These programs are available to any job seeker with a barrier to employment. From there, the job seeker and Goodwill staff member determine the best next steps, which can include:

  • Career Counseling
  • Assessments
  • Work Adjustment
  • Job Coaching

Once a job seeker is ready to find employment, Goodwill offers Job Placement Services. These services can be as intensive or simple as needed to help an individual find the right job. Some of these services include:

  • Job Seeking Skills Training
  • Job Development

Often times, some of the “soft skills” involved in the world of work can act as a barrier to an individual finding and keeping a job. During Goodwill Pre-employment Training, soft skills such as appropriate work relationships, communication, customer service and many more, are addressed and practiced if necessary. To access Employment Skills Training at Goodwill, you must have a referral from an agency such as Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, Veterans Administration, Bureau of Workers Compensation, County Board of Developmental Disabilities or County Job and Family Services.
